Lowell Gamble Obituary (1915 - 2014)

Lowell Gamble, 98, Bismarck, North Dakota, died, Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at his home. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, May 5, 2014, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, North Dakota. A gathering of family and friends is scheduled for one hour prior to the service. C. Lowell Gamble was born October 24, 1915, on a farm in Page County near Coin, Iowa, the son of Chester A. and Mary Mable (Lingo) Gamble. He graduated as Valedictorian in 1933 from Torrington, Wyoming High School and the University of Wyoming in 1938. He married Melva Virginia Thompson on December 29, 1937, in Harrisburg, Banner County, Nebraska. Melva died on July 18, 2009, in Bismarck. Lowell went to work for MDU in 1957 when the headquarters were in Minneapolis. He moved with the company to Bismarck in 1968. He was an accountant for MDU and treasurer of Knife River Coal Company until his retirement in 1980. A lifelong Methodist, he was a member of McCabe UMC in Bismarck. He was active as a Shriner and for several years he headed up the ticket sales for the Shrine Circus. He loved his family, classical music, and travel. He is survived by his sons, Rev. Robert Gamble, Maple Grove, Minnesota, and James Gamble, Bismarck; and his daughter Maryanne (Stanley) Wetzel, Bismarck; one grandson James (Annemarie) Gamble, Aurora, Colorado; two granddaughters, Laura Angeloni, Bismarck and Wendy Gamble (Caprice Nuss), Northglenn, Colorado; three great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons; and one great-grandson-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva; his parents; two sisters, Florence and Mary Martha Borders; and daughter-in-law Kathy Schutte Gamble.
