Loretta Yback Obituary (1941 - 2013)

LORETTA YBACK, 71, Fort Yates, North Dakota, died, Friday, March 15, 2013, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 23, 2013, at in the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball, with Revs. Evans and Ione Elk officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery, Cannon Ball. Loretta was born July 9, 1941 at Cannon Ball, North Dakota, Louis Many Horses and Melda Mentz. She was raised and educated in Cannon Ball by her mom and stepdad, Justus Elk. She attended grade school in Cannon Ball and graduated from Fort Yates High School. She married Arthur Yback, and to this union three children were born. Loretta worked for Indian Health Services in Aberdeen, South Dakota, in the Dental Branch recruiting dentists, and at the Social Security Administration in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. She is survived by two sons, David (Susan) Yback, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jim Yback, Fort Yates; one daughter, Leslie Yback-Arthurs, Clear Lake, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Danielle, Suzanne, Jessica, and Sarah; four great-grandchildren, four brothers, Herman, Wilson, and Gordon (Patricia) Elk, all of Fort Yates; Evans (Ione) Elk, Cannon Ball; one sister, Jacqueline Elk, Cannon Ball; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Loretta was preceded in death by her mother, Melda Mentz Elk, stepdad, Justus Elk, brother, Rev. Curtis Elk; and two infant siblings.
