Johanna Hilzendeger Obituary (1924 - 2018)

Johanna Hilzendeger, 93, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck with Fr. Austin Vetter officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2018, from 5-7:00 PM with a rosary/vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Johanna was born September 24, 1924, on a farm near Linton, North Dakota, to Conrad and Agatha (Nagel) Vetter. On February 8, 1949, she married Joe Hilzendeger in Linton and they lived in Napoleon until 1953. Johanna worked for Sweetheart Bakery from 1959 to 1985 when she retired. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and playing cards. She was a member of Catholic Daughters for 50 years and Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. She is survived by one daughter, Susan (William) Schulz, Cass Lake, Minnesota; one son, David Hilzendeger, Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Isabella (Valentine) Vetter and Mary Ella Vetter; two brothers, Elias (Alvine) Vetter, Sebald (Tillie) Vetter, all of Bismarck; three grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Schulz, Grand Forks, Jennifer Schulz and David Wines, Las Vegas, Joseph (Jennifer) Hilzendeger, Springfield, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Emma Schulz; two sisters-in-law, Johanna Vetter and Louise Vetter. Johanna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Matt and Joseph Vetter; and three sisters, Eva (Tony) Schumacher, Tillie (Wendilen) Mosset, and Regina (Pius) Getz.
