Gene Haga Obituary (1944 - 2018) - Mandan, North Dakota

Gene Haga, 74, Bismarck, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018, at home after a short illness. According to Gene's wishes cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Gene was born May 28, 1944, at San Mateo, California, to Oscar and Dolores (Hohman) Haga. He moved with his family to Minot, North Dakota where Gene spent his elementary school years. The family's next move was to Plentywood, Montana where he first met his future wife Kari Linn Kienitz. The family moved to North Dakota where Gene played basketball and graduated from Bergen High School in 1962. Gene served four years in the US Navy including two years assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany. During this time Gene and Kari were married and their son Michael was born. His working years after the Navy were spent employed by North Central Airlines in Alpena, Michigan, Republic Airlines in Wichita, Kansas and Northwest Airlines in Bismarck. Gene was an avid tennis player for many years until his knees didn't want to play anymore. When he retired in 1999, he spent much of his time enjoying his lake cabin, always accompanied by his labs Lake and Five (the best dogs ever). He is survived by wife Kari, son Michael (Marlowe) and grandsons Tyler and Dylan all of Evergreen, Colorado; and sister Judy Rud, Helena, Montana.
