Arletta Stretches Obituary (1963 - 2014)

Arletta G. Stretches, 50, Cannon Ball, North Dakota, passed away Saturday, at her home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball, with Revs. Evans and Ione Elk officiating. A Wake service begins at 5:00 PM, Friday, February 28, 2014, in the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Cannon Ball. Arletta was born July 24, 1963, at Fort Yates, North Dakota, to Mary Paints Brown and Floyd Stretches. She was raised and educated in Cannon Ball. She met Larry Conica and together had five children, Anthony, Maurice, Mary, Carlos and Robert. She loved spending time with family and friends. She would brighten everyone's day with her great personality and sense of humor. Arletta and Larry also raised one nephew, Samuel Stretches, one niece, Rachael Feather-Essen, and one granddaughter, Kadience Ramsey. She also cared for her niece, Josephine Iron Shield, and showed much love to all of them. She is survived by her children, Anthony, Maurice, and Mary Stretches, all of Cannon Ball, Carlos Stretches, Helena, Montana; uncle, Virgil Lonnie Wise Spirit, aunts, Angeline Iron Road, both of Cannon Ball, Henrietta Star, Williston, North Dakota, Gloria D'eserly, Poplar, Montana; brothers, Lloyd (Debbie) Stretches, Gerald (Alverda) Lester, and adopted brother, Mervin Medicine Horse, all of Cannon Ball; sisters, Bella Lester, Alice Lester, both of Cannon Ball, Frances Lester, Fort Yates, and Irma (Kenneth) Johnson, Davenport, Iowa; step-sister, Stephanie Tikanye; step-brother, Shawn Tikanye, Shane Tikanye, Steven Dogskin; and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. Arletta was preceded in death by her companion and father of her children, Larry Conica; parents; son, Robert Conica; grandparents, Samuel Paints Brown, Helen Ireland Wise Spirit, Virginia Little Bear, Johnathon Stretches; brothers, Charles Lester Sr., Samuel Lester, Asa Lester Jr.; adopted sister, Mary Lou Red Bear; nieces and nephews, Terrance Ramsey, Laura Ramsey, Burton Lester, Bella B. Lester, Oley Red Bear Jr., Gordon Red Bear, Robin Red Bear, and Tonya Red Bear; uncle, Clifford Wise Spirit; aunts, Victoria Joshua, Karen Wise Spirit, Matilda Two Bear, Rachael Conica and Irene Philbrick.
